Happy birthday, Johnny and Victor!!

Yes, it’s the husbands’ birthday month! Johnny’s 29th birthday is today, and Victor’s 30th birthday is this Thursday, July 4. They’re beginning their celebration in Japan, where they arrived safely in Tokyo some hours ago to be completely overwhelmed by gifts, flowers, and love from Johnny’s beloved Japanese fans (see below, plus pics!) before continuing on to Fukuoka for more of the same.

Birthday wishes have also been flooding in from around the world on Twitter since yesterday, when July 2 started happening in other time zones.

I am especially thrilled about their birthdays this year because fans everywhere have an amazing and unique opportunity to honor the husbands:

We are invited to participate in establishing the new
“Johnny and Victor Weir-Voronov Scholarship Fund”
just announced Monday on Johnny’s official website!

From the press release issued by the DVLF:

Delaware Valley Legacy Fund is pleased to announce the creation of the Johnny and Victor Weir-Voronov Scholarship Fund. This Fund is created to provide scholarships for LGBT self-identified students currently enrolled at an accredited institution to use toward the cost of higher education. Distributions from this fund may be used for tuition, room and board, and books or fees.

National data shows that LGBTQ youth are a vulnerable population and at risk of homelessness and bullying. School is a commonly hostile environment for LGBTQ youth—other youth often aim bullying and violence toward LGBTQ youth. As a result, LGBTQ youth experience high dropout and truancy rates.

“Investment in LGBTQ youth is a critical need, and it is inspirational to see Johnny and Victor lend their time and resources to help address this need, “said Samantha Giusti, Executive Director of the Delaware Valley Legacy Fund. “We are looking forward to working with Johnny and Victor to grow this scholarship to create lasting change.”

In the world of awesome that is the husbands, this is one of the most awesome and moving things they’ve done together.

And what a beautiful lasting legacy this will be: just as Johnny’s skates gave him the vehicle to pursue his dream, this scholarship will empower young LGBTQ people, whether they’re surrounded by cornfields or inner city concrete, to reach for their dreams.

To support this inspiring endeavor, the Facebook fan group Show Johnny Weir the Love (please go like them now! Because Johnny wants you to!) is spearheading a month-long fundraising effort throughout July as this year’s birthday project. Fans have the honor of being among the first to grow the fund through our birthday month donations!

The project involves two simple steps:

(1) Visit the DVLF website to make a donation to the scholarship fund. Please know that any amount is a loving gesture that can make a difference in a young person’s life.

*Go here and click “Donate now.” You’ll be taken to the secure online donation screen.

*Under Section 2, “Enter Your Contact Info,” please be sure to type in “Johnny and Victor Weir-Voronov Scholarship Fund” in the box labeled “Honoree Name.”

Those who prefer not to donate online may send checks to:

                        Delaware Valley Legacy Fund
                        c/o The Philadelphia Foundation
                        1234 Market Street, Suite 1800
                        Philadelphia, PA 19107

Please be sure to write “Johnny and Victor Weir-Voronov Scholarship Fund” in the memo field of the check.

(2) Post a happy birthday message to the husbands here if you’d like to (that part is free!). SJWTL will make sure the husbands know that messages are waiting there for them!

So please join in on the project anytime throughout the month of July! Donations to the scholarship fund are accepted year-round, but we’d like to make a special effort this month to get the fund off to a solid start.

If you have any questions about the scholarship, please feel free to contact me, or email DVLF Executive Director Samantha Giusti at sgiusti@dvlf.org.

Dearest Johnny and Victor:
Wishing you the very happiest of birthdays together,
surrounded by love in one of Johnny’s
most favorite places on earth.

Thank you both for being such a beautiful inspiration
to people around the globe. Though still so young,
you have already had a powerfully positive impact
on this world, both individually and as a couple,
through your courage to live and love freely,
boldly, and without reservation.

May the love you share be reflected back to you
a thousand times over everywhere you go,
all the days of your lives.

With love always from Binky

Welcome to Japan!

Johnny and Victor arrived at Japan’s Narita airport at about 3 a.m.-ish EDT this morning, or 4 p.m.-ish Tokyo time, where they had a short layover before continuing on to Fukuoka. Photos below may or may not be in some kind of randomly chronological order, but given that I’m throwing this together this morning to offer a glimpse of their arrival this afternoon, I think we’re going to call it a win that there are any photos at all, thanks to the dear Japanese fans.

As always, please click any photo twice for larger view.

They’re here!!
