Postcards from Taipei

Johnny in Taipei on Thursday

So it’s a little challenging to try to stay current with what’s happening in Taipei, since it’s currently Friday morning here but it’s already Friday night there, so no matter what I do I’m basically lagging behind because the future is happening now and I’m still sipping the first coffee of the day (or the last coffee of the night, because my understanding of “day” and “night” is fairly fluid anyway, by which I mean constantly fueled by coffee-drenched fluids 24/7), but anyway here’s all the latest stuff I could find from what I could best identify as adorably meaningless constructs known as “Thursday” and “Friday,” although I’m pretty sure more Friday stuff is coming any second now but we’ll just save that for some other round of coffee...

The incredible 3D staging of the ice,
also from Shen and Zhao’s Weibo
Please click twice for full-size image. Wow.
The smallest venue in which the show will take place
is the 15,000-seat arena in Taipei. The arenas in Beijing,
Shanghai, and Guangzhou all hold about 18,000 seats.

Official AOI video demonstrating
how the 3D effects will work. Amazing.

Taipei showtime is Saturday night!

The cast rehearsing with the full 3D projection underway.

I especially love how they’re making use of it here.

Bonus video!! Commercial for this year’s AOI
featuring clips from last year’s performances,
including Johnny!

Bonus pics!! Rudy Galindo and Johnny in Oakland.

Photo posted to the AOI official Weibo with this
intriguing astrology-based caption, as best as Google
and Bing Translator can figure it out together:
“Johnny has his own slightly narcissistic, stubborn,
a little superstitious, and sentimental personality,
and refuses to hide his feelings, whether laughing or crying.
‘I think laughter should come from the heart,
so I am reluctant to force a smile.’
On stage, he is a pop star, ice artist, the darling
of the fashion world. But underneath that surface layer
of glitz, he has always been a natural, forthright,
pure, and spontaneous Cancer child.”

And one more... photo tweeted by Victor:
“My Bond moment.”
IDEK but this is awesome.

Good to know Johnny is well taken care of by fans in Taiwan. Those are the biggest peonies I've ever seen (what variety? and do they feed them steroids?).
