Friday Fun: Megapost

More beautiful black-and-whites below.

Today we have a special post by a guest blogger, but first, here’s what’s been happening in Weir-Voronov World whilst I’ve been busy completely missing all the fun...

The Mystery of Montreal Revealed!

Photo via the Tourisme Montréal blog.

So immediately after the DVLF Heroes event on May 19, Johnny jetted off to Montreal to do a.... thing.

Which we now know was a very cool thing, as announced by Tourisme Montréal on their blog this week:

Tourisme Montréal is excited to announce Do Your Thing in MTL!, a video series of performances and interviews with top LGBT entertainers from around North America that we’ve invited to Montreal to showcase their talent... We have amazing performances rolling out over the summer months by singer-songwriter Jonny “Gay Pimp” McGovern, lesbian comedian DeAnne Smith, Olympic figure skater Johnny Weir, trans drag performer Carmen Carrera, and the Queen of Montreal’s Gay Village Mado Lamotte…

[T]hese LGBT celebrities not only get to show their talent, but also get to talk about their pride and experience within the LGBT community. We did these interviews with Richard Burnett, legendary columnist, interviewer, and frequent Tourisme Montréal collaborator, who’ll be featuring the series in his great Pop Tart column...

The entry’s sneak peek of Johnny includes the photo above plus the video of his Bad Romance performance from Fashion on IceQueer MTL also posted some pics of Johnny’s visit on their Instagram:

“Make-up time for @johnnygweir in #MTL”

“@johnnygweir is tearing up the ice in Montréal!
#QueerMTL #DoYourThingMTL”

“It’s @JohnnyGWeir in #MTL”

“Naughty Johnny in #MTL”
(“Naughty?” Really? Do tell...)

Johnny with Pop Tart columnist Richard Burnett,
who posted this photo to Johnny’s Facebook fan page:
“...with champion figure skater Johnny Weir...
A real pro and a really nice guy.”
Can’t wait to see the video of Johnny’s interview
and skating performance!

...It Seems Like Only Yesterday
He Learned How To Twitter-Picture

ICYMI: Johnny’s on Vine! And the very first Vine video he posted was picked up in less than an hour by USA Today Sports and became a headline. Because it was totally amazeballs:

You should watch this sitting down.

Then he posted this Vine:

And also this one:

And now he can’t stop, apparently....

Awesome Video Because
Random References To Johnny

From MSN Now:

Amidst all the hype surrounding Daft Punk’s latest album, one key fact was lost: First single “Get Lucky” is actually an ode to actor Johnny Galecki of “Big Bang Theory” and “Roseanne” fame. This highly amusing case of misheard song lyrics also helpfully points out Daft Punk’s interest in Mexicans, psalms, “Cops” and charismatic ice skater Johnny Weir. Glad that’s all cleared up, then.

“...Bouquets of Peonies and
Rainbow-Colored Roses...”

So one of the highlights of attending the DVLF Heroes event this month—besides the obvious highlight of seeing Johnny and Victor—was getting to meet another fan, Meredith Miner Reese, who’s been a Twitter and Facebook friend for some time now.

Back in December 2012, Meredith was facing a particularly challenging time in her life, one that she thought maybe she really wasn’t going to be able to get through. In the midst of some very dark days came December 21, when something she’d never seen before flitted across her TV screen and she suddenly found herself transfixed.

It was Johnny, performing to “Army of Me” for the Today Show, on the flooded ice at Rockefeller Center.

For many reasons, it was a life-changing moment. In Johnny, Meredith found inspiration that reached her in a way that nothing else had before.

She began devouring every scrap of information she could find about him (been there, still doing that...!). She discovered the wonders of international Weirdom, found the blog, started tweeting and Facebooking with other fans, and dreamed what seemed an impossible dream of perhaps meeting Johnny in person someday.

And then, almost exactly five months later—much sooner than she’d ever dared imagine—it happened.

Here is that happy experience, in her own words.

Whatever the forces of the Universe do to cause one to have good fortune, they were certainly in my favor on Sunday, May 19.

Johnny and Victor have literally thousands of fans, and most of them have followed Johnny’s career and life for much longer than I have, and have been devoted and loving orbs of good energy for him for years! So it was with great surprise and awe that I found myself in Philadelphia on May 19, at the gentle urging of Binky, to meet Johnny and Victor at the DVLF event.

As I and my girlfriend walked into the grand hotel where the event was held, I was visibly nervous. Fortunately, Binky was going to be there also, and I was grateful that there would be someone that I “knew,” even if only through Twitter and Facebook.

No sooner had I met the sweet and adorable woman who brings you this informative fan blog, and her quiet son, Davey, who provides most of the awesome pictures that you see here [aw, thank you, Meredith!], but who should round the corner right in front of us but the Weir-Voronovs!

I didn’t even have time to collect my thoughts before Johnny and Victor were giving out warm greetings and hugs to us. From the very first moment of meeting the handsome duo, they made me feel like they knew me and were happy to see me there.

This would be the first of several encounters with the husbands throughout the day. Each and every time, they were both incredibly gracious and sweet, just emitting oodles of happy energy.

After receiving his award, Johnny gave a beautiful off-the-cuff speech that was articulate, insightful, and clever. No surprise there, as I’m sure he’s no stranger to being all those things and more. He will undoubtedly give many more speeches in his lifetime, and earn many more awards.

Before heading off to the after-party down the block, our forever-the-gentleman Victor insisted that Binky borrow his umbrella, as it was a misty day in Philly. We made plans to touch base at the after-party so I could give them some gifts that I had brought.

As I sat next to Johnny and watched talented and creative drag performers, we chatted over bouquets of peonies and rainbow-colored roses, and I was pretty sure I must have fallen asleep at some point and this was all just a dream.

Lest anyone reading this think that there is even one tiny bit of over-the-top ego in either of these two lovely gentlemen, you’d be genuinely surprised at their kindness and overall approachability. Both men are charming, funny, clever, and make you feel at ease immediately. And Johnny makes you feel like you’re the only person on Earth when you talk to him.

Another thing I can say with complete confidence: Johnny and Victor are absolutely mad about each other. Their eyes light up at the sight of one another. You can see and feel the respect and love between the two of them.

I have no idea what I did to deserve such a day as the day I met them both, and I am forever grateful to Binky for suggesting I go to the event. I’m so happy that I did. It will be forever on my top three list of Best Days Ever.

With Meredith. So much fun!

A rare photo of Davey, camera in hand,
with me and Meredith. From the Philly
Gay Calendar Facebook album!

Getting the perfect pic of Meredith with the husbands
is a comedy of lolworthy errors...

...involving a great deal
of dialogue and stage direction... Davey just keeps shooting...

...Johnny’s still talking; Victor is ignoring him... Johnny’s ready, but Victor is talking...

...wait ...OMG! We got it!
And all that actually took less than 60 seconds.

This one only required a couple takes...

...this one slightly more
because random giggling.

At the after-party, Johnny takes a moment
to open gifts from Meredith... everyone enjoys the amazing drag performances...

...and also...

...Johnny's sense of humor.

Thank you, Thank you, Thank you!!!

You made my day with all the beautiful pics (including your very own take on them. I really laughed out loudly.)

I love to watch the HH`s interact with each other including watching their expressions (I´m obviously weird.) I love to watch how they make each other laugh (Cracking up Victor is priceless). I love the way they look at each other.

"Another thing I can say with complete confidence: Johnny and Victor are absolutely mad about each other. Their eyes light up at the sight of one another. You can see and feel the respect and love between the two of them."

Thank you, Meredith. You´ve confirmed what I´ve been seeing in pics since they´ve been together. And if there is someone who can´t see it, just look at Johnny smiling and glowing.) I hope to experience it in real life one day. Hope dies last, they say.

Thank you, as always, to photographer extraordinaire Davey (God, he´s grown up). Please continue to take such great pics.

Thank you, as always, to you, Binky, for providing a safe place to fangirl,to "ohhh" and ahhh" and "awwwwwww", to smile and laugh (Your texts are priceless as well. I can see a connection to Johnny and why you click so well.)

Thank you, Meredith, for your guest entry and your very own take on it.
May this experience give you wings to fly.

So happy for Meredith and her being inspired and sharing her delight. You made my day.

Thank you, David, for capturing these wonderful moments. And fast catching up to (or soon overtaking) the late Ansel Adams in height.

All of you guys are awesome. Thank you for receiving my guest blog so well and saying such nice things. I appreciate it more than you know. I wish anyone and everyone that loves, respects and has been inspired by Johnny and/or Victor can have the pleasure of seeing them in person one day. They're just phenomenal people. I'm beyond gleeful that they found each other!
Binky is almost solely responsible for my perfect day. She urged me to go even when I said I was too nervous to do it. I'm so glad I did. I had absolutely nothing to be nervous about. The husbands were incredibly gracious.. I just can't say that enough. Such sweethearts, both of them... and FUNNY!! OMG.. had me laughing A LOT!
