Sweet Sacrifices

Late Thursday night, we passed the $5,000 mark
in donations on our main ALC page!
And we have more donations waiting to be counted
in our PayPal account!

So it's been a bit of a rough ride this week here at Haus of Bink, although it's nothing that's worth boring any of you with except maybe for the part where I literally lost an entire day which I think was Tuesday and I've looked everywhere for it but it's gone, baby, gone, leaving me firmly convinced that yesterday was Wednesday until sometime in the afternoon when my husband was finally able to clearly convey to me that it was, in fact, Thursday, although in his view the question of "what day is it?" was not nearly as important as the question of "what are we eating tonight?" (to which Facebook fan Cheryl Davidson would say, "Johnny Weir: He's What's for Dinner")--and my travails were certainly nothing compared to what our Atomic Kitten has been handling out there on the road, in the weather, and (not) sleeping next to the tent of the guy whose snoring may or may not be responsible for the ever-widening Guatemalan sinkhole.

Tomorrow her 545-mile ride ends in Los Angeles, where closing ceremonies will be held at 4 p.m. PDT at the VA Center, 11301 Wilshire Boulevard. The public is welcome to attend, so if you have a chance to get out there and welcome Atomic Kitten and all her fellow riders and thank them for their tremendous efforts, please do so.

In the meantime, we raised nearly $650 in one day yesterday, surpassing the $5,000 mark at around 9:30 p.m. PDT! As of this writing, our main Ride for Life ALC page shows us at $5,287.33--an amount that was made possible by a $100 donation that came in last night and was then matched by Facebook fans Judith Dale and Maggie Strasser, thus turning that $100 gift into $300 in a matter of minutes. Many thanks to all three donors, who put us above the $5,000 mark as we head into the home stretch of the ride.

But even though the ride ends on Saturday, fundraising continues until July 31, which gives us extra time to reach or surpass our $7,500 goal. We're 70% of the way there now, and fans have been working harder than ever to get our donation thermometer to top out. Our progress has sparked fans' imaginations as we search for fresh, creative ways to keep pimping the project and seeking donations:

Karen Weeks collected donations from coworkers and also announced plans to hold a muffin bake sale and donate the proceeds to the project.

Nicole Davis, motivated by Karen's idea, is now planning a cupcake bake sale from which she will donate the proceeds.

Shelley Catina is auctioning off a beautiful pair of ice skates autographed by Johnny himself, and will be donating a portion of the proceeds to Ride for Life.

Ruth Albrecht is joining many others in e-mailing the link along with a plea to donate to everyone in her address book.

Deborah Johnson--despite her ongoing battle with Facebook, which got itself all worked up into a snit and stamped its foot and is just being completely unreasonable, like a three-year-old who most certainly needs a nap--is encouraging everyone to donate even just $1.

Beatrix Zenk of Thuringia, Germany, like so many of us, is tapped out money-wise right now. So she's offering to make twenty of these lovely pearl angels--perfect Christmas tree decorations--in exchange for donations. If you're interested, please let Beatrix know how much you are willing to donate, and once your donation has been verified, she'll get started on your angels.

Irene Chang has announced that anyone who donated more than $10 on June 10 or 11 has a chance to win this Lady Gaga necklace set in a lottery drawing. Please e-mail Irene to get your name put in the hat! More details are available on Facebook here.

As Johnny says and all these ideas so aptly illustrate: He has the best fans in the entire galaxy! Even if you're not able to donate, your efforts to post the links to our Ride for Life ALC page and our PayPal page everywhere are a vital part of our fundraising. It is so inspiring to see each of us give as we are able, and all of it working together to make something wonderful happen.

So as Atomic Kitten heads toward LA, please keep up the good work! Every sweet sacrifice of time, money, and effort proves Johnny right about his faith in us, his fans--and most importantly, helps save lives.

"I tell you the truth, this poor widow
has put more into the treasury than all the others.
They all gave out of their wealth;
but she, out of her poverty, put in everything—
all she had to live on."
--Mark 12:43-44

Please keep pimping out our official ALC donation page
and our Ride for Life PayPal donation page
to everyone everywhere!
AND PLEASE KEEP VOTING HERE for Johnny to win
the 2010 Readers' Choice Skater of the Year Award
(voting ends July 15)!

It´s a good feeling when people all over the world unite to support an important cause in whatever way they are able to.

I also want to thank Laura Formenti from Spain.
She donated via PayPal today and gets angels from me. Thanks Laura. This is very much appreciated.

I pimped this during the Diamondbacks vs Cardinals game yesterday to other fans, if I can get on during the game again today I'll do it again! I've also managed to get Johnny a couple more votes for Reader's Choice Skater of the year, and I really want that one for him! Best thing is, I've gotten people to vote for him because they think he deserves it! I also have gotten at least one friend and one of my sisters involved in the Ride For Life Cause now, so maybe that will help also with donations.
